The Orville 2.13

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

The Orville goes through a time distortion while Isaac and John are working on a temporal experiment. Nothing has changed except that Kelly from seven years ago, the morning after her first date with Ed, appears on the Orville.

Present Kelly is disturbed by having a prior version of herself around. Past Kelly isn't exactly overjoyed to be separated from the life she knew. Present Kelly lectures Past Kelly on a lot of things. Past Kelly decides to go on a second date with Ed.

Ed has fun with Past Kelly but ultimately realizes that it doesn't feel right. He's already been through a lot of things with Present Kelly, some of which he doesn't want to experience all over again with Past Kelly.

The Orville runs across a couple Kaylon ships. Past Kelly comes up with a solution which allows the Orville to escape unscathed.

Isaac and John come up with a way to get Past Kelly back to the past. Past Kelly agrees to have her mind wiped before she leaves. Isaac and John's plan works and Kelly is returned to the past.

Thoughts

There were no guest stars in this episode. Past Kelly's hair was different, which helped me to distinguish between the Present Kelly and Past Kelly.

I kept wondering if the two Kellies would switch places without telling Ed, but they didn't. I also wondered if Past Kelly would wind up dating someone other than Ed aboard the Orville.

The inclusion of the Kaylons added a layer that felt a bit uneccessary. It was just there to facilitate the moment where Past Kelly saves the day.

The scene on the dance floor was great, especially seeing Bortus and Klyden dancing together.

The ending was a bit surprising in that Past Kelly, once she has returned to the past (aka her present), declines Ed's request for a second date. I didn't get the impression that this was how it went the first time around. She had her memory wiped before returning to the past. What happened? Did she remember something? Will there be repercussions down the line? Does this mean that Present Kelly knew all along how it would go with Past Kelly?

This was a damn good episode. It wasn't too predictable although I wasn't surprised when Ed went on a couple dates with Past Kelly. I'm looking forward to the next episode even though it will be the final episode of the season.
