The Darkroom 1.02.B

Uncle George

starring Claude Akins, June Lockhart, Dub Taylor
directed by Rick Rosenthal

Burt (Claude Akins) and Margo (June Lockhart) are living off her Uncle George's disability pension checks. They look after Uncle George but after he dies Burt goes out and finds a replacement (Dub Taylor). They invite him into their home and give him Uncle George's old room, as Burt prepares to bury the original Uncle George beneath the dirt floor in their basement. They don't tell the new Uncle George about his predecessor's disability until after he has settled in.

Thoughts

Is the new Uncle George the first replacement or have their been others?

I have a vague recollection of watching this story years ago, probably when it first aired. The ending is chilling but I love it.

Notes

This is the second of four episodes of this series that Rick Rosenthal directed. The previous one was 1.01.A Closed Circuit, which I also liked very much.

Claude Akins was in one episode of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour and two episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959), and two episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955). He appeared in two movies that I have seen recently, The Caine Mutiny (1954) and From Here to Eternity (1953).

June Lockhart has appeared in episodes of a few anthology TV series including an episode of Amazing Stories and one episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. She is probably best known for appearing on Lassie (1958-64) and Lost in Space (1965-68). She turned 100 earlier this year. Her most recent screen credit was in an episode of the Netflix version of Lost in Space from 2021.

Dub Taylor has over 260 screen credits according to IMDb including the following movies that I have seen: Maverick (1994), Back to the Future Part III (1990), The Wild Bunch (1969), Bonnie & Clyde (1967), and You Can't Take It with You (1938). He also appeared in one episode of The Twilight Zone (1959).
