An Accomplished Oath! Get back Rukia!
Everyone who isn't at the site of the execution suddenly realizes that it is about to begin. They all start heading there. Rukia is raised up into position after getting Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto to promise to allow Ichigo and the others to return to their world once she is dead. Rukia calmly accepts her fate but at the last minute Ichigo shows up and stops the blade that was going to kill her.
He cuts her free and then throws her to Renji who takes off running with her. Several of the lieutenants take off after Renji and Rukia but Ichigo steps in the way and starts fighting with them. They don't prove to be much of a challenge for him despite their numbers. The episode ends with Byakuya stepping in and crossing sword with Ichigo.
There's a lot of different Shinigami in this episode. One notable exception in my mind is Gin Ichimaru. Where is he? He seemed to be hoping to benefit from the execution of Rukia. Most of the others get a few lines. Rukia plays the biggest role in this episode. Rukia is free but what now. I guess the big battle with Byakuya is next but what follows that? There are nine more episodes in this season.
