Private Investigator Perry Mason, in 1932, obtains photographic evidence of the misdeeds of actor Chubby Carmichael. Pete Strickland, the studio executive who hired Mason, is willing to pay but balks when Mason asks for more money that he originally offered.
E.B. Jonathan hires Mason to look into the case of a dead infant, Charlie Dodson. Mason crosses paths with police detectives who don't care for his interest in the case. Mason wonders about the possibility that the child's father might have something to do with it's death.
Mason's attempt to blackmail the studio doesn't work out very well. He makes a limited amount of progress in the murder investigation.
This feels nothing like the earlier incarnations of Perry Mason. I'm not sure how the creators square this version with the previous ones.
I like this. I'm not sure that I am going to love it but I feel as though I should watch another episode or two before deciding if I should stick with it or not. There are just eight episodes in each of the two seasons of this show.

Matthew Rhys played the part of Perry Mason. I've also seen him in the first season of The Americans. He was in all seasons of that show but that's the only one I watched.
John Lithgow played the part of E.B. Jonathan. I've seen him in a number of other things but the things that comes to mind first is Third Rock from the Sun.
