The Jacket

Earn wakes up the morning after a party in a stranger's house. He is missing his jacket. He needs to find it. He tries retracing his steps. He goes to a strip club where he, Alfred, and Darius hung out the night before. He talks to a bouncer and a stripper, but doesn't have any luck finding his jacket. Eventually he finds out the Uber driver from the night before has it. Alfred gives him a ride over to the driver's place. Darius is in the back seat. The driver doesn't show. Alfred senses that something is wrong but when he tries moving his car several police vehicles swoop in and block their way.

Juneteenth

Van drags Earn to a party thrown by Monique, Van's friend, and Craig, her white husband. It is a Juneteenth party Earn doesn't want to be there. He deals with it in a number of ways. At first he won't play along, then he does, then Van starts losing interest in being there.

Atlanta 1.08

The Club

Earn, Paper Boi, and Darius hang out at Primal. Paper Boi is there to make an appearance. He is getting paid for it or at least that's how it is supposed to work. Earn spends most of the episode trying to get the club's manager to pay up. He doesn't like to drink but has a few anyway, which isn't to his benefit. Paper Boi is grumpy because he gets upstaged by another performer who is more popular than him. He hangs with a woman who seems very friendly but when the night ends he finds out that she already has a boyfriend.

Not bad but also not my favorite episode. There is one moment that was so surreal it made me laugh.

B.A.N.

Paper Boi appears on Montague, a Black American Network television program. Earn talked him into it. He gets backed into a corner by the host and the other guest on the show who ask him about the trans-phobic lyrics in one of his songs. There is also a piece on Montague about Antoine who was born black but who now identifies as white.

Atlanta 1.06

Value

Van gets the spotlight as she hangs out with Jayde, a childhood friend who is more successful than she is. Van doesn't approve of Jadye's line of work, hooking up with athletes. She walks out of their dinner together when Jayde's date shows up with a friend. Jayde ditches the guys, apologizes to Vanessa, and the two end up hanging out and smoking weed.

Nobody Beats the Biebs

One episode, two settings, three stories. I really like the mix of humor and drama in this episode. They joke about things that are quite serious and make points at the same time.

The Streisand Effect

Earn gets talked into buying a Japanese sword by Darius, with the money he was supposed to give to Vanessa. He got the money from selling his phone to a pawn shop which is also where they found the sword. They trade the sword for a dog which is given to a breeder. It doesn't work out in the end but Darius does what he can to make things right.

Go For Broke

Earn takes Van on a date. He's close to broke. Van doesn't know that. Their waitress keeps urging Van to get the expensive items on the menu. Earn winds up having to call Alfred to ask him for money.

Atlanta 1.02

Streets on Lock

Earn and Paperboy get arrested. Paperboy gets out but Earn stays in jail for the better part of a day waiting to get charged. Alfred tries going about his day but something is bothering him. Earn sees a lot that bothers him in jail. Paperboy runs into a lot of people who know his name. Some know him from the radio, others from the shooting incident.

Atlanta 1.01

The Big Bang

Earn (Donald Glover) is down on his luck. He still lives with his ex-girlfriend and their daughter. He used to work in the music industry as a DJ and wants to manage his cousin Alfred's music career. Alfred raps under the name Paper Boy. Alfred isn't too excited about having his cousin manage his career until Earn gets one of his tracks played on the radio.

There's more. There's a shooting incident. Earn's parents don't trust him. This is a good mix of humor and drama. I want to see more.
