Justice League Action 1.13

Trick or Threat

Ten-year-old versions of Batman, Dr. Fate, Zatanna, and John Constantine enter the House of Mystery on Halloween. They are ostensibly there to find the candy that a couple bullies stole from the kids in the neighborhood.

They don’t find a stash of candy but instead find a horde of monsters controlled b6 Klarion the Witch Boy. He is intent on destroying the Justice League. It is also within the House of Mystery that they are able to pierce through the illusion that disguises their true natures. 

Thoughts

This episode, despite having a Halloween theme, first aired just before Christmas. 

Not one of my favorite episodes. It lacked subtlety.

They are short episodes but still it's hard to believe it but I have now watched one fourth of the episodes of this show.

Orange Is the New Black 7.08

Baker’s Dozen

Aledia is put in general population. She quickly picks up on the fact that Daya has a crew now. Aleida tries to assert her motherly role within the group. Daya does not take well to her mother's attempts to take over the group.

Nicky is concerned for Red. She tries to look out for her but Red doesn't want to be mothered. She is the mother of their group as far as she is concerned.

Red gets the backstory flashback which focuses on a time when she was trying to get the crime boss (who was using her husband's store as a front) to listen to her. She tries to convince the boss to lay off on one of the younger, softer guys in their organization, whom she mas been mothering. The boss agrees but then kills the young man.

Piper and Neri get some survivalist training at a training session for women. Neri sets Piper up with Zelda, another woman as the training session. Piper thinks that Zelda is in on the set up. It turns out that she isn't. Piper opens up to Zelda after that and tells her about having served time in prison.

Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) goes out on what he hopes will turn out to be a date with Marcy Franklin (Rosanna Arquette) and instead turns into a recurring series of bizarre nightmares. 

Thoughts

To describe this movie in any sort of detail would ruin the magic of the experience watching it. Despite how I have described it above I think of it more as a dark comedy or humorous episode of a Twilight Zone like show than I do a horror film.

Batman: Caped Crusader 1.05

The Stress of Her Regard

Someone has been convincing rich men to give up all their money. Batman discovers evidence that it might be Harleen Quinzel. It turns out that there is something to the evidence Batman found.

Barbara Gordon starts to suspect that her fiend Harleen might be lying to her. Barbara later finds evidence that she has been lying to her.

Dr. Quinzel asks Detective Montoya out on a date. Their date is going well until until Harleen gets a call. She rushes home only to find that Batman has broken into the secret basement in her house.

Schitt's Creek 3.10

Sebasian Raine

Johnny joins Bob's poker game. Alexis joins Ted in dancing with senior citizens in order to fulfill her community service requirement for school. Sebastian Raine, whom David once dated, comes to town to photograph Moira.

Thoughts

This wasn't a great episode but it also wasn't awful.

Doctor Who (1963) 12.02.01

The Ark in Space - Part One

The Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan land in the TARDIS on a space station. The Doctor's original plan was to take them to the Moon but Harry messed with some of the equipment in the TARDIS and (according to the Doctor) that threw them off course. 

They start to explore the room in which the TARDIS materialized. Sarah goes through a door that opens up. The door closes behind her and gets trapped in a room without any oxygen. It takes a couple minutes for the Doctor and Harry to figure out what happened and get the door opened. The door closes trapping all three of them in the room.

The Doctor repairs something and gets the oxygen turned back on. They lay Sarah down on a couch. They go into the other room. Sarah dematerializes while they are gone. The Doctor and Harry and kept busy by a security system that tries to electrocute them. They go looking for Sarah once they have dealt with the security system.

They eventually find Sarah in a room filled with people cryogenically frozen. She too is frozen. Harry goes looking for something to help them unfreeze Sarah. He opens a door and a giant insect like creature lurches forth at him.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.11

In the Still Darkness

Most of the power goes out in Tokyo-3. Everyone is affected by it. Those in Nerv HQ are affected the most. The three pilots have to make their way there by foot. Eventually they do but even then they face other obstacles when it comes to dealing with the Angel.

Thoughts

Much of what happens here is in how the story is told. Asuka is still hot tempered and selfish. Will she ever change / soften?

This is a pretty good episode. It doesn't advance the plot forward as much as provide a different perspective on life at Nerv HQ.

The Tick (2016) 2.08

Joan!

Arthur, the Tick, and Tinfoil Kevin look after Lobstercules' offspring. They try to keep the presence of the little ones a secret from the four people who visit the apartment.

They let Flexon and Joan, Arthur's mother, in on the secret. They seem to keep Miranda (from AEGIS) from learning what's really going on in the bathroom. Superion already knows about the little ones but could care less. He's got larger concerns like his own public image.

Thoughts

I wrote a longer summary of this episode and accidentally deleted it.

I'm still enjoying this show but have my doubts as to how it will end the season and the series.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.32

Bilko Retires from Gambling

Captain Barker brings in Paul Draylin, a card shark, without telling Bilko. Draylin helps Ritzik, Grover, and Coogan to clean Bilko out. Bilko is so shocked that he retires from gambling.

Colonel Hall is pleased with the change in Bilko's demeanor until he realizes that Bilko is the life blood of Fort Baxter. Colonel Hall is getting ready to try and shock Bilko back to normal when Bilko finds out about what really happened. Bilko quickly starts to plot his revenge.

Thoughts

Paul Draylin played himself in this episode.

This is fun but I would say it is middle of the road for this show. It was a little too easy to see what was coming before it happened.

Thoughts

I thought that it was a little odd that there was one character named Divine G and another named Divine Eye but nothing was ever made about the similarity in their names. They were Checkov’s names except they weren’t. 

Justice League Action 1.12

Repulse!

Clark Kent and Diana Prince are having dinner together at an Italian restaurant, getting ready to kiss, when Superman hears something. They head outside and find a purple and black costumed man. Hawkman shows up and together the three heroes try to stop the man who calls himself Repulse from wrecking more havoc than he already has.

Superman breaks through Repulse's forcefield and turns off the power. Repulse turns out to be Lex Luthor in disguise. Luthor is sent to prison but Superman finds that he has been infected with the Repulse power.

Wonder Woman and Hawkman visit Luthor in prison. Wonder Woman uses her magic lasso to force Luthor to tell them how to cure Superman. This leads the three heroes plus Luthor to a black hole where Superman gets cured of the nanotech that controlled the repulsive power.

Me as Well

Cal and Neri get tired of hearing Piper masturbate in her room and encourage her to go out and find someone. She does. First she tries it with a man and then with a woman. It doesn't work for her in either case. She tries calling Alex but Vause is too busy making out with McCullough to notice that her phone is ringing.

Nichols relationship with Shani, one of the ICE detainees, progresses. Red seems to sink further into depression.

Suzanne writes up what she recalls about the night that Piscatella was killed. She gets someone to give what she wrote to Taystee.

Daya gets Taystee to steal a key so that she can retrieve her phone which was taken during an inspection.

Batman: Caped Crusader 1.04

The Night of the Hunters

Commissioner Gordon gets orders from the Mayor to do whatever needs to be done to catch the Batman. Gordon puts Montoya in charge of the case but Batman is a little too smart to fall into the traps that the police set 

Montoya brings in Dr. Quinzell and gets her to provide her professional opinion to the squad that are assigned to the Batman case. The doctor suggests that what will really get the Batman's attention is another costumed freak. Bullock and Flass take Dr. Quinzell's idea to heart. They release Firebug who torches a building in a poor neighborhood.

Schitt's Creek 3.09

The Affair

Moira goes to a conference with Roland. She's a big hit. She gets drunk and wakes up sleeping on Roland's bed. When Jocelyn hears about it she assumes that Roland and Moira are having an affair. Johnny is not.

David gets a business offer from Patrick who thinks that David's business idea for the general store is a good one.

Thoughts

Alexis is in this episode but she doesn't really get a story line of her own.

This was a fairly focused episode. It was in a big way about what didn't happen between Moira and Roland. It was kind of silly but I liked it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.10

The Magma Diver

Shinji, Asuka, and Rei are forced to stay behind when their class goes on a trip to Okinawa. Shinji expected it. Rei doesn't comment on it. Asuka is angry she isn't doesn't get to go.

An Angel egg is found in the heart of a volcano. Asuka is tasked with retrieving it. She refuses until Rei offers to go in her place. Shinji is Asuka's backup.

Asuka descends into the magma in Unit 02. She picks up the egg but before she can get it to the surface it hatches. She fights the newly hatched Angel as she ascends. She almost doesn't make it but Shinji steps in and helps her.

The Tick (2016) 2.07

Lei-Lo, Ho!

Arthur, the Tick, and Tinfoil Kevin figure out where Lobstercules children are being held captive. It is a call from Miss Lint that tips them off. She won't tell them where she is but thanks to Caller ID they are able to see that she is at the Lei-Lo Hotel.

Walter goes to the hardware store, comes home, and takes a call from Agent Tyrannosaurus Rathbone.

Miss Lint starts to hallucinate. Her own reflection starts talking to her about changing sides, really becoming one of the good guys.

Dot, Overkill, and Danger Boat go on a mission to capture the Duke and walk right into a trap. Overkill's bionic eyes get hacked and he loses the ability to control them. Dot almost gets blown to pieces but thanks to her precognitive ability she is able to escape just in time.

The Boys from Brazil (1978)

Barry Kohler, an American investigator, more than 30 years after the end of World War 2, finds a bunch of Nazis including Josef Mengele (Gregory Peck) in Paraguay. He contacts Ezra Lieberman (Laurence Olivier), the Nazi Hunter, but the Nazis kill Kohler before he can pass along everything he has found.

Lieberman investigates and discovers that the Nazis have ordered the deaths of 94 men, all the same age. in various countries in North American and western Europe. Lieberman was reluctant to help Kohler when he was alive but after Kohler disappears he feels obligated to do something.

Justice League Action 1.11

Play Date

Toyman infiltrates the Watch Tower with his army of robots. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg are the only ones available to fight him. Cyborg is forced to take the lead and use Batman to fight Toyman who is controlling first Superman and then Wonder Woman one-on-one in a video game caller Street Brawler 2.

Cyborg wins the first round. Toyman wins the second round. Cyborg brings the game to a halt using one of Toyman's robots which he interfaced with earlier in the episode.

Thoughts

At one point Toyman, while controlling Wonder Woman, rotates quickly through her costumes. One of them is the 1974 Kathy Lee Crosby version of Wonder Woman. I didn't recognize the others.

The Favourite (2018)

England, 1705. Abigail (Emma Stone) turns to her cousin Sarah (Rachel Weisz), Duchess of Marlborough, for help. Sarah is the friend and lady in waiting to Queen Anne of England (Olivia Colman). Sarah has been the favourite of the queen for a number of years. Abigail is given a low level job in the kitchen until she catches the queen's attention.

Abigail is quickly promoted out of the kitchen, given much better living accommodations, and made Sarah's lady in waiting. Robert Harley, a member of Parliament who seeks to get the queen's ear, turns to Abigail for help. His efforts create a rift between Abigail and Sarah.

Abigail eventually deposes Sarah as the Queen's favourite. Abigail goes a few steps further and comes close to killing Sarah. The film ends on an uncertain note.

Orange Is the New Black 7.06

Trapped in an Elevator

Caputo has the women in his restorative justice class write letters of apology to someone whom they wronged. Ruiz feels as though she doesn't owe anyone an apology. Cindy doesn't know what to write or how to apologize. to Taystee.

Ruiz gets the backstory spotlight. It is about how she wound up in prison and her relationship with Yadriel, her boyfriend, and how she was cheating on him just before she was arrested.

Ward meets with Linda who wants her to answer questions for the press. MCC is panning to shut down the psych ward and use it to house more prisoners. Linda wants Ward to deal with the reporters. Ward goes to Fig for advice on how to handle the interview. Ward feels very unprepared and unsure about it.

Caputo finds out that he needs to get an operation to help the chances of getting Fig pregnant. He refuses at first. After he hears some of the apology letters written by the inmates in his class he changes his mind.

Batman: Caped Crusader 1.03

Kiss of the Catwoman

Bruce Wayne punches a reporter after the man makes a crack about his mother. The court orders him to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Quinzell. She tries to help him but he refuses to open up to her. Meanwhile, he can't stop thinking about the night his parents were killed or the aftermath of it.

Jewel thief Selina Kyle gets some inspiration from Batman and comes up with a costume and gadgets of her own. She is low on cash and robs one too many people. She is caught by the police but the charges are dropped by District Attorney Harvey Dent. She returns t her thieving ways and is eventually caught by Batman.

Schitt's Creek 3.08

Hotel Review

Moira mans the front desk of the motel and treats one of the guests shabbily. This results in a bad review for the motel.

David struggles with filling out the paper work for the General Store's business license.

Alexis has to write a new economics paper because Johnny "fixed" Alexis first economics paper without telling her. The result was that it was clear that Alexis didn't write it.

Thoughts

This was a fun episode, like most of them. Almost all the scenes took place indoors. Roland is not in this episode. Jocelyn, as Alexis teacher, is in it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.09

Mind, Matching Moment

Asuka transfers to the same school as Rei and Shinji. She tries talking to Rei but Rei isn't very responsive. 

Shinji and Asuka take on an Angel together, for the first time each in their own units. Their first attempt to destroy the Angel doesn't go very well. They have seven days until the Angel returns. Katsuragi makes them train by playing a dancing game and by sharing a room. 

Katsuragi has problems of her own with Ryoji who won't stop hitting on her.

The Tick (2016) 2.06

Categorically Speaking

AEGIS has an open house. Superian shows up unexpectedly and sneaks in disguised as a civilian. Dot meets with her mother and then goes to the AEGIS open runs where by chance she runs into Tinfoil Kevin. Arthur and the Tick try to get Lobstercules released. The first step is getting in to see her.

Arthur and the Tick get the paperwork that they need to fill out and work on it. The last signature they need is from Joan of Arc. It takes a little convincing but she eventually signs the paperwork.

Dot and Tinfoil Kevin talk as they take part in a guided tour of the AEGIS building. Dot finds a picture of someone who looks just like Walter, her stepfather, Special Agent John Wu. Tinfoil Kevin explains his theories about AEGIS to Dot.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.31

Bilko's Pilot

Bilko makes a pilot for a western TV show for CBS, starring Doberman. Everything goes wrong during the shoot but he delivers the finished product, with all its flaws to CBS anyway.

Thoughts

This is yet another episode that starts off looking like it is headed in one direction only to change course midway through. Originally it looked like this episode was going to be about how Bilko deals with the new man in his platoon, a loud mouthed cowboy named Tex. That plot thread went out the window once executives at CBS get a look at Doberman dressed like a cowboy.

I've seen worse but this wasn't all that good.

Actress Anna Kalman (Ingrid Bergman) has given up on love when she meets Philip Adams (Cary Grant). She is very taken with him as is he with her. He lets her know that he is married but separated from his wife. She does not lose interest and their romance starts to deepen. He changes plans which he had to move overseas and instead gets an apartment in the same building as she.

Anna holds out hope that Philip’s wife will ask for a divorce. Their relationship hits a major crisis when she learns from her sister that Philip was lying about his marital status; he isn’t married. Instead of rejoicing that he isn’t married she feels hurt that he lied to her.

Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman), daughter of a convicted traitor and Nazi sympathizer, is recruited by Devlin (Cary Grant), a federal agent, to help spy on men who are suspected of having helped the Nazi cause during World War 2 and now live in Brazil. Alicia has no experience when it comes to espionage. She is recruited mainly because of her familial connection to the Nazis.

Alicia and Devlin fall in love before she is given her first assignment, to get close to Alex Sebastian (Claude Rains), an associate of her father. The assignment messes with Alicia and Devlin's budding relationship. She winds up marrying Alex but she continues to pass information to Devlin. Alex eventually figures out what is going on but he's in a bit of a bind and worries what would happen to him if his Nazi associates discovered that Alicia has been spying on him for the US government.

Justice League Action 1.10

Under a Red Sun

Steppenwolf seeks to make a name for himself by destroying Superman. First, he distracts Superman, Batman, and Big Barda with a legion of Parademons. Steppenwold catches Superman off guard and transports them both through a Boom Tube to a world that orbits a red sun. Superman's superpowers quickly fade and he is forced to fight Steppenwolf without them.

Batman and Big Barda travel to Apokolips in search of Superman. There they tangle with Virmin Vundabar and figure out where they can find their missing friend.

Thoughts

This was fun, but not great fun. I liked the fight between Superman and Steppenwolf more than I did the team up of Batman and Big Barda.

Orange Is the New Black 7.05

Minority Deport

Piper spends a day with Cal, goofing off. They get high together. He tells how to get by the drug testing but it doesn't work. Her parole officer fools her into telling her what she actually did. Piper pleads with the parole officer and get off easy and doesn't go back to prison.

Flores disappears. Ramos doesn't know what happened to her and is freaking out. Menndoza gives her a phone number to call for a lawyer. It works but someone overheard her and asks for the phone number. Ramos takes pity on the woman and decides to give the woman the number. Ramos thinks about it and looks around and decides to give the number out to everyone. The guards see what's going on and pull Ramos aside.

Aleida is having trouble with Eva, her 13-year-od daughter who has a boyfriend who is dealing drugs and is much older than Eva. Aleida tries to talk some sense into Eva but that doesn't work. She tries taking her to see Dayanara, but that doesn't work either.

Batman: Caped Crusader 1.02

...and Be a Villain

Actress Yvonne Frances goes missing. Detective Renee Montoya is in charge of ihe investigation. She doesn't know it but Batman plants a bug on her jacket which allows him to hear everything that she says or hears.

Montoya's initial suspect. actor Basil Karlo, turns up dead. The dead man turns out to be someone other than Karlo. Frances is still missing when a hideously disfigured man kills the head of the film studio. Batman shows up in time to clash with the mystery man but the villain gets away. Montoya tracks down the disfigured man and unknowingly leads Batman right to him.

The episode ends with Montoya finding the bug and telling Batman that she isn't through with him.

Schitt's Creek 3.07

General Store

Alexis goes back to high school to finish up the diploma that she never received. David decides to invest in the general store but then he finds out from Moira that she and Johnny secretly bankrolled and his previous business ventures. Johnny gets Ivan, who secretly has a crush on Twyla, to bake cinnamon buns for the motel's continental breakfast.

Thoughts

What grade is Alexis supposed to be in? Becky and Steph, two of her classmates, look like freshmen. I thought Alexis just hadn't finished her senior year.

The actor who plays Ivan is 26 years older than the actor who plays Twyla. I understand that Twyla is young and attractive but couldn't they find someone who was a little closer to her in age to play the part of Ivan?

Age issues aside, this was a decent episode.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.08

Asuka Arrives in Japan

Katsuragi, Shinji, and his two classmates get helicopter ride out to a fleet of ships that is bringing an Evangelion to Japan from Germany. Asuka Langley Soryu, the pilot, greets them when they board the aircraft carrier. Katsuragi gets a nasty surprise when she discovers that Kaji is traveling with Asuka. He asks some rather personal questions which make is clear that they have know each other intimately.

Asuka is showing Shinji her Evangelion when the fleet comes under attack from an Angel. Asuka and Shinji suit up. He has to wear one of her suits. They take off with permission from Katsuragi despite orders from the fleet's commander forbidding them to do so. Katsuragi comes up with a plan for how to deal with the Angel. Asuka and Shinji are forced to work together in the cockpit of her Evangelion in order to lure the Angel into the trap that Katsuragi has set for it.

Kaji doesn't stick around. He leaves early and flies to Nerv headquarters where he delivers a special package to Shinji's father. The next day Shinji's class welcomes a new student, Asuka.

The Tick (2016) 2.05

Magic Is Real

Arthur and the Tick continue to search for Lobstercules. They get some help scouring the sewers from a couple other heroes: Bronze Star and Sage. Arthur gets separated from the others and captured by Lobstercules. He finds out that Lobstercules is only committing crimes because her "henchmen" are holding her children hostage.

Joan of Arc joins AEGIS. Arthur tries to protest but he can't explain why he is opposed to her joining AEGIS without breaking the law. Miss Lint wants to become a member of the Flag Five. She decides that she is going to have to do something really impressive to secure a spot on the team.

Superian tries to explain why he carved up Devil's Tower, in a televised interview.

Batman: Caped Crusader 1.01

In Treacherous Waters

A gang war erupts between the Penguin and mob boss Rupert Thorne. Batman tries to stop it. The Penguin, aka Oswalda Cobblepot, strikes first. Batman investigates and stops her operation which is based out of her party boat, the Iceberg Lounge.

Batman gets some help from Alfred Pennyworth, his alter ego Bruce Wayne's butler. Police Commissioner James Gordon and public defender Barbara Gordon, his daughter, are caught in the middle. Most of Gotham's police department seems to be crooked.

The episode ends with Batman realizing that by taking down the Penguin he has just made life easier for Thorne.

Max (David Krumholtz) attempts to kill himself, several times. His parents have him committed to a psychiatric hospital after his eighth attempt. Max kept trying because he hoped it was would lead to a beautiful vision of white light. Max changes his mind, while he is in the hospital, when he meets Grace (Natasha Lyonne).

Grace is also suicidal. Max falls in love with Grace. He convinces her to marry him. They stay at the hospital, against their will, after they get married. They escape once it gets to be too much and they can't stand it there. They go to see his parents (in New York) and her mother (in Wisconsin). Grace gets pregnant at some point.

Justice League Action 1.09

Time Share

Batman and Blue Beetle chase Chronos through a time portal and arrive in the past on the night that Batman first faced off against the Falcone crime family. Present Batman and Blue Beetle make sure not to let Past Batman see them. They save Past Batman without him even knowing it.

Thoughts

Superman and Wonder Woman show up at the end of the episode, after Batman and Blue Beetle have returned to the present.

Batman and Blue Beetle also teamed up in a few episodes of Batman: Brave and the Bold.

How to Do Life

Red, Mendoza, Flaca, Nochols and Morello start to work in the kitchen in the ICE detention center. The make contact with Flores and Ramos. Flaca and Mendoza try to help them. Flaca calls lots of people trying to find Ramos' mother. She finally does but then learns that Ramos was born in Colombia.

Morello gets an unexpected visit from Vinnie, her husband. He doesn't look good and he's there to deliver the bad news that they lost Sterling, their son. He got pneumonia and died.

Warden Ward introduces some classes to the prison. She offers incentives to prisoners who participate. Doggett tries out a number of classes but walks out of most of them. Caputo teaches one of the classes. The last class Doggett checks out is the GED class.

Out of the Past

Talia returns. She offers Bruce a chance at rejuvenating himself in the Lazarus Pit. He turns down the chance but later changes his mind and accepts her offer. Bruce and Terry travel to Talia's island base. Bruce gets dipped in the Lazarus Pit for the first time. It doesn't fully restore him to his peak but the changes are noticeable. It is about this time that it becomes clear that everything is not as it seems. There is something about Talia that isn't quite right.

Bruce and Terry try to leave the island but Talia insists that they stay. Terry almost gets thrown to the alligators and Bruce almost gets lobotomized. In the end they escape as Talia's island home goes up in flames.

Murder Mystery

Twyla gets Moira's help in getting people to come to her annual murder mystery party. David and Alexis consider taking college classes but they haven't graduated from high school. Johnny and Stevie visit a golf course.

Thoughts

Definitely not my favorite episode of the season. None of the three storylines seemed to go anywhere. There were a few laughs but not enough to make up for the lack of plot or character developments.
