The Secret of the Labyrinth (2010)

This documentary is about the making of the Masque of Mandragora. It was shot in Portmeirion, Wales as were the exterior shots for the Doctor Who story. There are four actors and four members of the crew interviewed for the documentary. The actors are represented by Jon Laurimore (Count Federico), Gareth Armstrong (Giuliano), Tim Pigott-Smith (Marco), and Antony Carrick (Captain Rossini). The crew who appear on camera in the documentary are Philip Hinchcliffe (Producer), Rodney Bennett (Director), Chris D'Oyly-John (Production Unit Manager), and Barry Newberry (Designer).

Portmeirion is also the location where The Prisoner TV show was filmed, several years before The Masque of Mandragora. Philip Hinchcliffe said he got the idea for doing a story along these lines after seeing The Maque of the Red Death (1964). They shot the location in a very tight way to avoid allowing anything to appear on screen that didn't belong. Designer Barry Newberry talked about how he was influenced by Renaissance paintings when he decorated the interior sets.

This documentary is a nice addition to the DVD. It is only 26 minutes long but they pack quite a bit into it in the way of stories about the making of The Masque of Mandragora. It's a shame that they couldn't get the actor who played Hieronymous for this documentary.

Beneath the Masque

This 9-minute feature about The Masque of Mandragora is very much done in jest. It is very silly. I thought it was fun but not to be taken seriously.

Outlaw Star 1.02

World of Desires

Gene, Jim, Hilda, and Melfina (the girl in the suitcase) escape from the pirates. They make their way in Hilda's drop ship to the Horus, her spaceship. Hilda takes them to Blue Heaven. They explore while the Horus is getting repaired. Jim takes Melfina to buy some clothes. Gene and Hilda tangle with some loud mouths in a bar. Hilda deals with them but the guys from the bar catch up to them later that night. Hilda and Gene are ready for them but it turns out the thugs brought some heavy machinery with them.

Thoughts

This episode opens up with images from Gene's past. A narrator waxes philosophic about growing up as Gene ages in the pictures from a boy into a man.

Jim teases Jim about going into space. He tells Hilda that Gene is a space virgin but that isn't true. It seems that Jim doesn't know the truth about his friend. Gene has flashbacks to the day he lost his father, in space.

So far so good. The story isn't blowing me away but its a decent watch. It has yet to turn me off. There is a lot that has yet to be revealed and there are regular members of the cast of characters that have yet to make their first appearance.

Security Door

Dave has a security door installed at the offices of WNYX. The purpose of the door is to prevent theft and unauthorized access of the office. It is very unpopular. Dave catches employees letting unauthorized people into the office and propping the security door open. He becomes increasingly agitated and tries harder and harder to enforce the rules he has created for the door.

Bill is asked to do a commercial for Blue Genie Blue Jeans. He asks Lisa to help him with the negotiations of his contract. She reluctantly agrees. Bill quickly caves and winds up doing more work for less money. Lisa tries but Bill can't be stopped.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 1.01

Pilot

Midge gets married to Joel Maisel. They have 2 kids in 4 years. He has a steady job but he wants to be a comedian. She does what she can to support him. She bribes the manager the club where he performs to get him a better time slot. She thinks he's funny. She learns he's been doing another comic's act. Things come apart for Midge and Joel. He loses confidence and bombs. He reveals he's been having an affair with his secretary. He packs his stuff and leaves.

Ray Who?

Ray goes to a class reunion with Gary. No one remembers Ray. Gary hits on Meaghan, whom he had a big crush on in high school. A couple guys start picking on Gary. A fight almost breaks out. Ray tries to prevent that from happening but the other guys won't back down.

Brittany comes home high, the next day. She doesn't want to tell Ray where she got the ecstasy. He tracks down her boyfriend and shakes him down for information. Ray forbids Brittany from seeing her boyfriends again. She doesn't like that. He threatens to tell her mother about the drugs. She threatens to tell her mother about his gun.

Beth's clone returns. She's been in space for years (?) fighting alien empires. Beth and Jerry go to therapy. Aliens arrive on Earth. They are after Beth, not realizing that there are two of them. Morty and Summer fight over an invisibility belt that Rick made. Beth and her clone get kidnapped and taken to a giant spaceship.

Inferno - Part 7

The Doctor arrives back in the universe he left behind in episode 3. He is comatose when Liz Shaw and the Bridgadier find him. He does not wake up right away.

Professor Stahlman proceeds with the drilling project. He has accelerated the drilling to the point that has exceeded the safety limits by about 10 percent. Greg Sutton and Petra Williams try to talk him into slowing things down but he refuses. 

The Doctor finally wakes up. He advises that they reverse the drilling process. He tries smashing some of the machinery when Professor Stahlman refuses to listen. The Brigadier has the Doctor escorted out of the control room by two of his soldiers.

Wild Cards - Part 2

Green Lantern is badly injured in the blast that levels the casino. Hawkgirl finds him and revives him but he is in no shape to continue fighting. She takes him away from the fight to get him medical attention.

The Recruiting Sergeant

Bilko gets a hot tip about a 40-to-1 odds on a horse. He needs to get to town to place the bet. His only way off base is to go with Colonel Hall on a recruiting trip to the county fair in Topeka. He has some trouble locating the bookie with whom to place the bet. Colonel Hall saddles him with some recruits. He takes the recruits with him when he goes to see the bookie. One of the recruits almost blows it for him when he leads some policemen to the bookie's secret office.

The Invaders 1.09

Quantity: Unknown

A small airplane crashes into a mountain side. There are no bodies found in the wreckage but there is a mysterious cylinder which seems to be weightless. The cylinder is sent to Sperrick Laboratories.

A delivery vehicle is stopped on its way to Sperrick Laboratories by two Invaders, disguised as security guards. They kill the driver and start to search the vehicle when they are interrupted by real security guards from Sperrick. The Invaders get into a shoot out with the real guards. One invader and both security guards are killed. The other runs off into the hills as more security guards show up.

Outlaw Star 1.01

Outlaw World

Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking operate Starwind and Hawking Enterprises on the planet Sentinel III. Jim repairs things. Gene is a bounty hunter. They get hired by Rachel as bodyguards. Gene and Jim quickly soon find out that Rachel is pursued by pirates who wield Tao Magic. Rachel turns out to be a pirate named Ice Hilda. They help her evade the Tao Magic pirates and retrieve a trunk which has a woman's in it.

Thoughts

I've watched this series once before, years ago, probably more than 15 years ago. I remember enjoying it then. There are elements of this episode that I remember. I don't recall if I saw it before or after I saw Cowboy Bebop for the first time. So far so good. I don't remember all the twists and turns that the story takes.

Inferno - Part 6

The Doctor works with Greg Sutton and Dr. Petra Williams to rout power to the TARDIS console. They hold the green wolfmen at bay using fire extinguishers and coolant from the drill rig. The Brigade Leader wants the Doctor to take them with him but the Doctor refuses. It takes more than one effort to get the power routed to the TARDIS console. 

The Brigadier does what he can to delay Professor Stahlman's plans. He wants to know what happened to Sir Keith. Professor Stahlman claims to know nothing and is very annoyed that he was dragged away from his work in order to answer silly questions.

Rick diverts the family vacation so he can visit his latest baby momma. She turns out to be a planet. Rick impregnated her. She starts to spew humanoid beings. Beth works with Rick to raise them properly.

Sam wants an Atari game system after he finds out that Neal is probably going to get one. Sam sees Dr. Schweiber at the mall hugging a woman wo isn't his wife. Dr. Schweiber tries to play it off like she is just an old friend from high school.

The Joker plants a bomb in Las Vegas. He challenges the Justice League to find it. He has cameras all over the city watching them as they search for the bomb. He gives them less than 25 minutes to get the job done. Superman finds the bomb but it turns out to be a dud. He and the rest of the league get attacked by the Royal Flush Gang. The Joker explains who the Royal Flush Gang are and gives a brief description of them and their powers.

Better Call Saul 2.10

Klick

Past. Jimmy and Chuck are sitting by their mother's bedside. She is comatose. Jimmy wants to go get something to eat. Chuck insists on sticking around. Jimmy finally goes to get some food. Their mother wakes up, says Jimmy's name two times and then dies. She has a DNR in place so there is nothing the doctor can do. Jimmy returns with food. He asks Chuck what happened. He tells him but when Jimmy asks him if she said anything before she died Chuck tells his brother that she did not.

Present. Jimmy rushes into the copy center. He unplugs things and gets someone to call 911. Chuck is taken to the hospital. He doesn't want to get an EKG or a CAT scan. Chuck accuses Jimmy of bribing the clerk at the copy center. Ernie lies and says that Jimmy was there because he, Ernie, called and let him know. Chuck asks them both to leave. Jimmy asks Ernie why he lied to Chuck. Ernie says that Jimmy is his friend and he didn't like the way that Chuck was going after him.

Crashing 1.01

Episode 1

Kate throws a birthday party for Sam. He hopes he will get laid. A lot of people show up for the party which is held in the abandoned hospital where Kate and Sam live. They share the space with Anthony, her fiancée, Melody, an artist. Colin, one of Kate's coworkers, comes to the party and decides to move in. He is going through a divorce. Lulu, an old friend of Anthony, also decides to move in to the hospital.

Inferno - Part 5

Everything goes haywire as the drill achieves maximum penetration. Most of the technicians take off running. Director Stahlman goes into the area where the drill is located. Sutton tries to fix the problem with some help from the Doctor. Stahlman attacks them. They get out of the area of the drill and close the heat shield. Stahlman is left behind but he isn't dead.

Brigade Leader Lethbridge-Stewart informs the others that the problem is far from local. It is affecting most of the country. He has orders to keep everyone on site and he intends to follow those orders. Sutton wants to leave, he even convinces Dr. Petra Williams to come with him but they are stuck for now.

The Vat of Acid Episode

Morty challenges Rick to create a device that will allow him to save his position so that he can go back to the point where he saved his position, like in a video game. This happens after Morty gets upset with Rick's latest stunt, which involved a fake vat of acid.

Lindsay's friends talk her into borrowing her parents' car without their permission. She gets distracted by her friends, while driving, and crashed into another car. Her parents ground her and forbid her from hanging around with her friends.

Captain Harlock (1978) 1.12

Mother, Be Eternal

Daiba tries to make up for his mistake by training to fight the Mazone in a simulator. The rest of the crew of the Arcadia observes and tries to learn from what they are seeing on the surface of Venus. They see etchings that remind them of ancient drawings from Earth. Captain Harlock has the Arcadia descend into a huge crater which reminds them of a similar one on Earth.

The Physical Check-Up

Bilko gets concerned when he learns that Colonel Hall wants him to take a physical fitness exam. He tries leading his men on a 20 mile hike but he only makes it a quarter mile before he has to turn around and head back. He tries working out at the gym. He tries working out with the guys who are in the best shape but he can't keeo up with them. He tries the next group down but they are also too tough for him. He winds up with a couple other master sergeants who are just throwing a ball around.

Romeo Is Bleeding (1993)

Jack Grimaldi (Oldman) is a crooked cop. He sells information on the location of a mob informant to the mob. They send Mona Demarkov (Olin), one of their best enforcers, to deal with the informant. She kills not only the informant but also four FBI agents who were guarding the informant. Grimaldi doesn't like it but what can he do?

The whole story gets a little weird and then a lot weird from this point out. Things happen without logical explanations, lots of things. They don't all happen at once but the accumulation of them over the course of the movie make it feel like a fever dream of some sort.

Better Call Saul 2.09

Nailed

Mike uses the hose with the nails sticking out of them to stop the Regalo Helado truck 60 miles south of Albuquerque. He hog ties the driver but doesn't kill him. The driver doesn't get a look at him. Mike finds money in the tires. He takes it and leaves the driver tied up on the side of the road.

Chuck and Howard go to the hearing with the New Mexico licensing board for Mesa Verde. Chuck is under a great strain with all the electrical devices in the building. There is a problem with the filing. Chuck tries to talk the licensing board into granting a provisional permit. They won't. It will be six weeks before the licensing board will have time to meet with Mesa Verde again. Chuck is positive that Jimmy pulled a fast one on him.

Rick and Morty 4.07

Promortyus

Rick and Morty discover that they are on another planet with face hugging creatures attached to them. They don't remember how they got there. They try to fake their way out of these but they get found out. They kill a lot of aliens escaping. They make their way back to Earth only to learn, from Beth, that Summer was with them.

Inferno - Part 4

Platoon Under Leader Benton is ready to take the Doctor outside and execute him when Section Leader Shaw shows up. The Doctor uses the distraction to take the initiative and fix the computer. The Doctor talks the Project Director Stahlman into doing something to offset the problem that is building up in the drilling project.

The Doctor is taken for interrogation by Section Leader Stewart. He tries telling her about where he's from and her counterpart in the universe from which he came. She doesn't believe him but she is curious. The Doctor is put under some more rigorous interrogation techniques by Section Leader Stewart and Brigade Leader Lethbridge-Stewart but he doesn't tell them anything that they want to hear.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 4.10

Fractures

Glimmer tries to use a truth spell to interrogate Double Trouble but it doesn't work. Adora calls a meeting of the the Princess Alliance to discuss what to do about the Heart of Etheria. Adora and Bow are convinced that they need to disable it. Glimmer wants to use it against the Horde.

Scorpia arrives in Bright Moon. She wants the Princess Alliance to help her rescue Entrapta from Beast Island. They are suspicious of her motivations. They lock her and Emily up in the spare bedroom. Frosta and Perfuma keep Scorpia company.

Catra looks for Scorpia without success. She can't contact Double Trouble. She yells at Lonnie. She smashes a lot of equipment. She is not in a good mood.

Freaks and Geeks 1.10

The Diary

Lindsey gets in trouble for hitchhiking with Kim. Harold and Jean, Lindsey's parents, find out about it because the guy who picks them up knows her father. They decide to invite Kim's mother over for dinner. Kim's mother is on her best behavior. She leaves Lindsey's parents with the impression that Kim is the problem. They order Lindsey to stop hanging out with Kim.

When Lola Shines Golden

The Arcadia heads for Venus. The crew spot a Mazone command ship that has been seriously damaged by meteors. Caprain Harlock sends Daiba and Yattaran over to investigate. They find one Mazone left alive, Lola. She is the pilot who almost killed Tadashi in the previous episode. He wants to kill her but Captain Harlock orders them to bring her back to the Arcadia, alive.

They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970)

San Francisco Police Lieutenant Virgil Tibbs (Poitier) investigates the murder of a prostitute. The primary suspect is Logan Sharpe (Landau), a friend of his. Logan insists that he didn't do it. He is a minister and the leader of a social jutsice movement. Tibbs believes his friend didn't do it but he has to prove it and find the killer.

Tibbs has troubles at home, in part because he spends so much time working and is never around. His son smokes and hits his sister. Tibbs uses some unorthodox methods to deal with his son's behavior issues.
