Teen Titans 5.09

Revved Up

The Teen Titans try to apprehend Ding Dong Daddy. He has something that he stole from Robin. He agrees to give it back but only if the Teen Titans can beat him in a road race. Raven and Starfire try to fly to the finish line but Ding Dong Daddy zaps them with a beam that temporarily robs them of the ability to fly. They wind up hitching a ride first with a chicken farmer and then in a school bus filled with nameless supervillains.

A bunch of other supervillains learn about the race and decide to join in their own vehicles. Red X joins the race. He duels with Robin but as they get close to the finish line he stops trying to win the race and instead turns around and knocks all the villains, other than Ding Dong Daddy out of it.

Thoughts

This episode was basically an homage to Wacky Races (1968-69), a show I used to watch when I was much younger and it was in reruns. The main character in Wacky Races was Dick Dastardly.

The supervillains who join the race in the middle of the episode in their own vehicles (not to be sonfused with the ones who are on the bus with Raven and Starfire) are all ones who have appeared before in other episodes.

The contents of the briefcase that Ding Dong Daddy stole from Robin remain a mystery. Robin was just about to reveal the contents at the end of the episode when the end credits started to roll.

It was fun to see the Teen Titans take on the concept but it was not a great episode.
