The Maquis, Part 2

Sisko tries to talk Hudson into turning over Gul Dukat and returning to Starfleet. His words fall on deaf ears. The conversation ends with Hudson shooting his friend with his paser set on stun. Kira and Bashir, who accompanied Sisko on this mission, are similarly fired on by Hudson's associates in the Maquis.

Sisko, Kira, and Bashir return to the space station. Sisko is visited by Admiral Nechayev. She wants him to recover Gul Dukat and defuse the situation. She doesn't seem to care about what grievances the Maquis have with the Cardassians. Sisko does not tell her that Commander Hudson is part of the Maquis.

Legate Parn, a Cardassian, visits Sisko soon after the Admiral departs. He seems considerably less concerned with the recovery of Gul Dukat. He tells Sisko that Dukat was the one smuggling arms to Cardassian colonists in the Volan colonies. Kira is ready to abandon the search for Gul Dukat but Sisko is not.

Odo locks up Quark after learning that he had a relationship with Sakonna. Quark hems and haws but eventually gives them a full list of the items he procured for the Maquis. 

Sisko, Odo, and Bashir rescue Gul Dukat and take a few members of the Maquis prisoner, including Sakonna. She and the others are taken back to DS9. She is thrown in a cell with Quark who explains to her why a war between the Maquis and the Cardassians is illogical.

Sisko tries to talk Hudson, once again, into abandoning the Maquis but he won't. Sisko, Gul Dukat, Kira, O'Brien, Dax. and Bashir stop Hudson and the Maquis from blowing up a Cardassian weapons depot. Sisko gives Hudson another chance to change sides but he still says no. Sisko's ship is disabled so Hudson is able to get away in the end.

Thoughts

This was a good episode. I enjoyed it. I think my favorite part was getting to see Sisko and Gul Dukat work together. Dukat really knows how to be annoying. I think that maybe Sisko gave Hudson a bit too much leeway but they were friends, so that is understandable. It is odd that no one on Deep Space Nine said anything about it, whether to him or behind his back.

Notes

Natalia Nogulich played the part of Admiral Nechayev. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which she appeared. She appeared in four episodes of the Next Generation. She also played Admiral Nechayev in all of those episode. The first of those episode was 6.10 Chain of Command, Part I. I saw her very recently in an episode of Tales from the Crypt, 2.01 Dead Right.

John Schuck played the part of Legate Parn. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He also appeared in two Star Trek movies and one episode each of Voyager and Enterprise. He did not play Legate Parn in any of those other appearances.

This is the fourth of four episodes of this show that was directed by Corey Allen. The third one he directed was 2.15 Paradise.
