Legends of Tomorrow 1.16

Legendary

- far from my favorite episode; worked too hard to wrap everything up nice & neat; honestly wasn't sure what to expect going in; things just got too convenient and fluid
- don't understand how something (destroying the meteors) was supposed to be happening in three different time periods simultaneously
- the episode opens with Rip ditching the remaining members of the team; Carter and Kendra are captives of Vandal Savage; Captain Cold is dead; Heat Wave, White Canary, Ray Palmer, Dr. Stein, and Jackson get dropped in May 2016 and for a short while return to their lives
- Soon they get back together and using a device created by Stein and Palmer they get Rip to return to 2016
- Meanwhile Kendra has left a message for them in a helmet (which made me think at first that the character wearing it was Sgt Rock) just before she gets captured by Vandal Savage; no mention of how she escaped
- The message tells them to look in St. Lo, France in 1944; they do and also manage to free the Hawks
- The rest of the episode is about stopping Vandal Savage once and for all; he has a plan which uses the 3 meteors which came from Thanagar and crashed in Egypt in 1700 BC; he wants to turn the clock back to 1700 BC and start things all over again; too bad for him they defeat and kill him in 3 different time periods: 1975, 1955, and 2021; it was the meteors that gave Vandal Savage and the Hawks their powers and when he tries blowing them up he becomes mortal or killable once again
- the ending, the very ending, with Rex Tyler aka Hourman is enough to make me want to come back for more but the ending of the season was not satisfying, by ending I mean the last 3-4 episodes; the last episode I really enjoyed was Last Refuge (12) although there were some parts from Leviathan (13) that I liked but not how it ended or how the rest of the season played out

Legends of Tomorrow 1.15

Destiny

- A very Star Wars: A New Hope like episode
- Kendra/Chay Ara gets dragged off by Vandal Savage; he claims to have Carter/Khufu but he isn't in this episode
- In 2016 Jackson arrives and finds Dr. Stein; its a little unclear what is achieved here but they spend some time together; Jackson for the most part refuses to talk about the future
- Mick gets brainwashed again into becoming Chronos but that doesn't last too long; once he is armed and equipped he turns on the Time Masters and sides with Rip and Co.
- While captured Rip learns that in about 10 years an invasion from Thanagar will come to Earth and lay it to waste
- The Time Masters believe that Vandal Savage is the only hope for Earth; that's why they've been siding with him; moreover they've been manipulating Rip and Co. to do whatever they want
- Lenard and Sarah break into the prison and almost get snagged themselves but with a big assist from Chronos they escape with the others
- Rip's plan is to destroy the Occulus Wellspring which will cut the Time Masteres off from their source of info; it works but Lenard is killed in the process; at first it looked like it would be Ray who would stay and die and then Mick, before Lenard stepped in and cold cocked his friend and sacrificed himself
- Tractor beam; Lenard's sacrifice; both very Star Wars moments
- The Lenard/Katie relationship moments seemed kind of tacked on and out of nowhere; sure they were friends but I wasn't feeling anything more than that

Legends of Tomorrow 1.14

River of Time

- After leaving the 22nd century for the Vanishing Point, the year 2166 to be precise, the Wave Rider breaks down and the heroes plus Vandal Savage and brainwashed Carter Hall spend most of the episode trapped in the time stream
- Vandal Savage toys with various team members when they visit him in his cell; Vandal Savage taunts Ray Palmer until he opens the cell to fight Vandal Savage; Savage of course beats Palmer and then frees Carter Hall
- Vandal Savage is eventually recaptured, after a fight, just before they arrive at the Vanishing Point, just after Carter regains his memories
- Jackson gets infected with a time disease when he is repairing the time travel drive; his sbody dtarts to age rapidly; in order to save him Dr. Stein puts him in the jump ship and sends him back to 2016
- After they arrive at the Vanishing Point, Rip turns Vandal Savage over to the Time Masters only to discover that they have been working with him all along and they free Vandal Savage and arrest Rip and his friends/team
- not great but better than the previous episode
- We get a few flashbacks to ancient Egypt (1700 BC)
- Vandal Savage reveals to Rip that Rip was the one who gave Vandal Savage the idea to create a time machine
- Jackson is in the past; how he gets cured I don't know but I'll bet he creates a time machine and comes to the rescue in the next episode
- most of the team were shown being captured or arrested at the end of the episode, except Captain Cold and White Canary
- Ray goes through a character moment which doesn't seem entirely genuine in the way it is portrayed; he goes from resenting Carter, because he doesn't want to lose what he has with Kendra, to accepting that he has lost it, in the middle he fights with Vandal Savage

Legends of Tomorrow 1.13

Leviathan

- probably my least favorite episode since the mid-season break; it feels like they are slowing the show down; still there are some things I like
- Rip & Co. travel to 2160 to try and capture/kill Vandal Savage, which they do but I didn't care for the reason why it was capture instead of kill; the reappearance of Carter (ok) but the whole bit about Vandal Savage being the key to Carter regaining his memories (ugh!); considering how many other impossible situations/problems the team has solved I don't see why they can't work their way through this one without Vandal Savage's help
- Not a fan of giant-sized Atom vs the Leviathan; on the whole not crazy about this villain; very bland
- big fan of Vandal Savage's daughter, Cassandra, her role in this episode, and her relationship with Captain Cold
- I've got a feeling that something is brewing with Dr. Stein getting injured, might lead to him leaving the show at the end of the season; or the reveal that some previously unknown villain is now controlling his mind
- they captured Vandal Savage that easily? really? either poor storytelling or Vandal Savage has something up his sleeve
- not awful but not even close to being my favorite episode

Legends of Tomorrow 1.12

Last Refuge

- the team's younger selves are stalked by the Pilgrim after they have been marked for death by the Time Masters
- the twist is that the Pilgrim is trying to kill them by killing their younger selves; which leads the team to save or steal their younger selves, which has repercussions beyond saving themselves from execution
- there are some great character moments in this one: (a) Heatwave first bullying and then trying to talk sense to his younger self, (b) Jackson meeting his father and trying to save him, despite knowing that he was killed just a few weeks after Jackson was born
- a really good episode; I had my doubts going in; I tried not to think too much about the how part of the show; it helped a lot that there was a good amount of focus given to characters, especially Jackson and Heatwave, interacting in moving ways

Legends of Tomorrow 1.11

The Magnificent Eight

- In an effort to hide from the Time Masters and their servants (the Manhunters), Rip and the gang head to the Wild West in the 19th century
- Rip wants the group to lay low but of course the group balks at that and go into town anyway; a town named Salvation
- Story A: Ray, using the name John Wayne, becomes the sheriff and has to take on the Stillwater Gang with some help from Lenard, Mick, Rip, and Jonah Hex as well as Shayera and White Canary and Firestorm (at the end); they beat the gang but then the Manhunters show up and they beat them too
- Story B: Shayera and Kate go on a trip to find an older woman who Shayera thinks she knows; it turns out to be herself in a previous life; she warns herself about trying to love anyone but Carter and also learns of a bracelet that she previously did not recall wearing at the time of her first death in ancient Egypt
- Story C: Dr. Stein helps helps to cure a boy of tuberculosis, despite warnings from Rip about meddling with the time stream; in the end he learns the boy's full name is Herbert George Wells
- Hex uses the same line he used in JLU about it not being his first time meeting time travelers; it turns out he and Rip have met before in a town called Calvert, OK
- much in the way of cliched moments but on the whole it was a pretty good episode
- I was hoping Shayera's earlier self would join the battle at the end against the Manhunters, but she did not show
- At the end they learn that the Time Masters have issued Omega Level orders to destroy the team, which means they will be sending an assassin after their young selves

Legends of Tomorrow 1.10

Progeny

- this show just keeps getting better, more nuanced
- the team travels to the year 2147 where Vandal Savage is the tutor of young Per Degaton
- Rip's plan is to kill the boy who will 5 years in the future unleash a virus that will kill billions; naturally some members of the team refuse to go along with the plan, so Rip agrees to try kidnapping Per Degaton
- that doesn't seem to change anything, but nor does talking to the boy, in the end they return the young Degaton when White Canary's life is threatened by Vandal Savage

- lots of good moments in this one
- Kendra's flashbacks to the early 20th century and Carter and Aldus
- Ray's discovery that his technology is being used for evil  purposes in the mid 22nd century by a company that he (at first) thinks his son founded but later discovers it was his brother
- Len and Mick duking it out and dinally settling their differences, revealing that the Manhunters are on their way after them all
- Rip trying unsuccessfully to kill Per Degaton, and then the ultimate discovery that their actions didn't change things for the better but only sped up Degaton's rise to power

Legend of Tomorrow 1.09

Left Behind

- All kinds of developments
- the team gets split up, once again
- On the Wave Rider, Chronos wrecks havoc before kidnapping Captain Cold and sabotaging the ship
- Ray, Sarah, and Kendra get left behind in 1958, as the ship disappears into the time stream
- Ray and Kendra make a life together and have given up on ever seeing their teammates again; 2 years later (in 1960) the wave rider returns
- Ray had become very comfortable living with Kendra; she's in love with him but not with the world they live in
- Len discovers that Chronos is actually Rory, whom he did not kill a couple episodes back; Rory is just as nuts as when he teamed up with the pirates and hell bent on revenge
- everyone converges in Nanda Parbat, where Ra's Al Ghul runs the League of Assassins and where Sarah ran off to; when the others show up Sarah betrays them and they are slated for execution
- Rip gets Ra's to agree to trial by combat and Kendra battles Sarah until Chronos/Rory shows up; then Rip agrees to help Ra's defeat Chronos in return for their freedom
- Len escapes from Rory's ship after blowing his hand off and then reveals who is really under the Chronos mask
- All is saved; the team returns to the ship; Rory gets locked up; Ra's agrees that Sarah shouldn't stay in Nanda Parbat
- Rip announces that their next destination is 2047
- very fast moving episode, which covered a lot of ground, but for the most part worked in large part because it was building off of things that happened in earlier episodes

Legends of Tomorrow 1.08

Night of the Hawk

- good, fun episode but not exactly what I thought it would be; instead of the return of Hawkman (which I am starting to believe won't ever happen in a meaningful way) this episode delivered a 1950s science fiction horror story plus the return of Vandal Savage
- the team tracks down Vandal Savage in a small town in Oregon
- Shayera and Ray Palmer masquerade as a couple and move into a hoise that is coincidentally next door to the one where Vandal Savage lives
- Vandal Savage has assumed the identity of Dr. Curtis Knox and works at the local insane asylum where he is conducting experiments using a meteorite that contains nth metal
- Dr. Stein and White Canary masquerade as a doctor and nurse at the same asylum where Vandal Savage works
- Rip and Captain Cold briefly masquerade as FBI agents
- Turns out that Vandal Savage is turning his unwilling test subjects into hawk creatures by injecting them with an extract from the meteorite
- issues of racism and sexism are dealt with in this episode as well as same sex relationships
- Chronos turns up at the end of the episode and makes his way on to the time ship, which takes off leaving Shayera, White Canary, and Ray behind
- still don't know what happened to Heat Wave, although the subject of his disappearance is brought up on more than one occasion; Captain Cold doesn't want to talk about it or his role in it; he still seems to feel betrayed by Heat Wave and conflicted over what he did

Legends of Tomorrow 1.07

Marooned

- big improvement over the last episode
- space rescue, turns out to be a trap
- time pirates
- more background on Rip Hunter and his wife through a few flashbacks
- more relationship development between Ray Palmer and Shayera
- Dr. Stein - to the rescue, special forces commando style
- Heatwave still angry at Captain Cold, helps the bad guys (pirates)
- CLiffhanger ending: what did Captain Cold do exactly? Is Heatwave dead or just frozen in a block of ice? Where did they drop Heatwave?
- good fight scenes, once again
- not the best episode plot-wise but I really liked the character moments

Legends of Tomorrow 1.06

Star City 2046

- a clittle clunky but it worked; it seemed like they tried to pack a little too much into this one
- everyone had a role to play and a subplot
- Captain Cold and Heat Wave knocking heads over how to loot, pillage, and whether to stick with the team or not
- Kendra in the middle of a love triangle with Ray and Jax (and sorta with Dr. Stein)
- Rip and Sara arguing over whether to do something for the version of Ollie Queen and Conner Hawke that they meet
- It was just a little too tightly plotted, too many moving parts, too little time to get it all done
- plus I was hoping for the Green Arrow Beyond thing
- still I got a bit misty eyed when Ollie showed up

Legends of Tomorrow 1.05

Fail-Safe

- Didn't quite live up to what I hoped for
- One of the Russians merged with Dr. Stein, but (a) it was temporary and very short-lived, and (b) it was Vostok rather than Arkadin (like in the comic books)
- basically a prison break themed episode; the previous episode ended with Stein, Palmer, Rory all prisoners; so this one was all about breaking them out of Russian prison
- not as many good fight scenes; the best was probably the one where White Canary took on several Russian mobsters
- Vandal Savage was back and got "killed" again by Rip
- I do like how the idea is that they need need to change things for the better but they often seem to be about to make them worse
- the next episode, Star City 2046, looks like it may be kind of Green Arrow Beyond with Ollie Queen playing the part of the aged, forced into retirement, former superhero who is mentoring his successor

Legends of Tomorrow 1.04

White Knights

- the team leaves the 1970s and lands in 1985; first stop is the Pentagon; they steal some doucuments but blow their cover in the process; Hawkwoman goes feral momentarily; they make it out intact; the documents indicate that Vandal Savage is now in the Soviet Union so they head there
- In the USSR they discover that Vandal Savage is attempting to build a new Firestorm; they try to steal the key component in Savage's set up; Captain Cold gets away with the nuclear reactor core but Heat Wave, Atom, and Dr. Stein get captured in the process

- two new characters show up who have appeared in DC Comics before although I am not familiar with either of them, aside from what I recently read on Comic Book DB:
- Valentina Vostok - in the show she is working for Savage, his head scientist; in the comics she was Negative Woman of the second iteration of the Doom Patrol (late 70s - late 80s); after losing her powers she became a secret agent and showed up in Vigilante, Checkmate, Suicide Squad, and one issue of Firestorm (1987) in the mid to late 1980s
- Mikhail Arkadin - in the show he is part of the security detachment that is guarding the base that the team infiltrates and one of those who captures Dr. Stein, Heat Wave, and the Atom; in the comics he becomes part of Firestorm around Firestorm 65; was in the story for quite a bit over the net 3 years; issue 85 seems to be his last appearance except for the final issue of the series, 100

- still loving the show; can't wait to see how Vostok and Arkadin get folded into the show; loved the Hawkgirl/White Canary fighting/training scenes; Victor Garber is still great as Dr. Stein but Wentworth Miller is stealing the show as Captain Cold; every scene he is in is lots of fun, love how he rubs people the wrong way and still manages to come out on top
- really enjoying watching this show evolve; I like how things don't return to status quo at the end of each episode
- Rip meeting with another Time Agent in the woods; the return of Chronos (aka Boba Fett); undercover missions in the US (Pentagon) and Soviet Union

Legends of Tomorrow 1.03

Blood Ties

- Rip Hunter tries to kill Vandal Savage in ancient Egypt
- Rip Hunter teams up with White Canary in an attempt to steal Vandal Savage's money
- White Canary's blood lust is more apparent
- the body of Carter Hall and his blood adding to ordinary human longevity
- Rip Hunter kills Vandal Savage but also mistakenly provides him with the information he will need to locate Rip's wife and child
- Hawkman's body recovered
- Atom and Dr. Stein working to save the life of Hawkwoman
- Captain Cold's trip to visit his father in an attempt to change the past, which doesn't work out as he planned

Legends of Tomorrow 1.02

Pilot - Part 2

- really enjoyed it

Things I loved:
- Dr. Stein talking to and dealing with his younger self
- White Canary flirting with Dr. Stein
- the fight at the arms sale
- the Atom and Captain Cold arguing and fighting
- Vandal Savage

Things I didn't love
- the Hawks, especially him, I wasn't disappointed when he got killed but I assume that he will be back

Legends of Tomorrow 1.01

Pilot - Part 1

- Rip Hunter recruits superpowered heroes (Atom, Firestorm, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, White Canary) and villains (Captain Cold, Heat Wave) to help him defeat Vandal Savage in the year 2166
- Vandal Savage is responsible for the deaths of Hunter's wife and child
- some of the recruits are reluctant at first
- their first stop after 2016 is 1975 where they meet Aldus Boardman, who's the child of Kendra and Carter in a former life; they hope to get a fix on where to find Vandal Savage from Boardman
- Captain Cold, Heat Wave, and White Canary get into a bar fight while the others are visiting with Boardman
- Chronos, a temporal bounty hunter, shows up and attacks them
- good in a goofy way, sort of like arrow; good not great
- I'm only really familiar with 2 of the actors; (1) Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) from Dr. Who from a run of episodes that I didn't care for playing a character that I really didn't like; he's better in this but like the show he is a bit silly; (2) Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein) from Alias where he played a much tougher character, Jack Bristow who I kind of like; it is weird seeing him play a much nerdier character
- I want to continue watching; the weird thing is that there are 2+ seasons of Arrow and 1+ seasons of Flash that precede this show that I haven't seen; all of these characters (except Rip Hunter) showed up at least once on one or both of these shows; if I stick with Legends of Tomorrow and there is a crossover then I think I will have to watch those episodes of Arrow or Flash but otherwise I will just stick with watching them in the regular order
